The Channel One featured a story about Torzhok Gold Embroideresses, a participant in the exhibition “Private Museums of Russia. Gold nuggets of Russia”

The first channel released a story about the unique and indigenous art-craft – gold embroidery. Torzhok gold embroidery has been known since the 13th century. The most skilled craftswomen were the nuns of the Voskresensky Convent.

The heyday of gold embroidery came in the XVII – XVIII centuries. Now in Torzhok there is the only factory in the country where manual embroidery has been preserved almost in its original form, and there is also a unique Museum “Belt House”, which has a unique exhibit – a 12-meter belt, which took about two years to produce. The belt is impressive not only for its size, but also for its elaborate embroidery. On the largest belt of Russia, a prayer is embroidered that protects from all evil – the 90th psalm of David. The embroidery of this prayer took more than 50 kilometers of gold and silver threads. The belt is decorated with 6.5 thousand Swarovski crystals. So it is not without reason that this work of art was entered in the Russian Book of Records and is one of the finest creations of the Torzhok gold embroideresses.

This remarkable exhibit was presented at the beginning of September at the first and only exhibition in Russia, “Private Museums of Russia. Gold nuggets of Russia.”
