Museum activities were included in the list of the sectors most affected by coronavirus

On April 16, 2020, private museums of Russia sent an Open Letter to the Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation M.V. Mishustin on supporting museums with any form of ownership and including them in the list of the most affected sectors with OKVED 91.02 – “museum activities”. The letter emphasized that private museums located throughout our country from Kaliningrad to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky are in a very difficult situation and they all need state support. The letter was signed by more than 50 owners of Russian private museums.

“Museums are closed, and you have to continue to pay either the entire rent, or part of it, as well as incur additional costs. All these museums were founded by enthusiasts who are trying to preserve the cultural heritage of our country and convey it to young people, many of them are actively working with the social categories of visitors, and are developing programs for people with disabilities. Many museums exhibits are part of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation. Many projects of private museums have repeatedly won the All-Russian contests and the Presidential Grants Fund, are included in state cultural and educational programs, which indicates a high appreciation of their activities and their significant contribution to the development of culture and the preservation of cultural traditions. If museums are closed permanently, unique collections will be lost, we will lose those people who help educate our youth in patriotism and love for the motherland. ”

On April 18, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved changes to the list of sectors affected by coronavirus. The activities of museums and zoos were added to the section “Culture, the organization of leisure and entertainment”. Thus, museums, including private ones, will receive state support during this difficult period.

The Decree is posted on the website of the Government of the Russian Federation
