The Russian gusli and Chinese guqin museum held the second “play the gusli” online lesson

On the 10th of April, the second lesson in the frame of online course on how to play the gusli was held. This time the topic of the lesson was – the setting of the gusli instrument, while playing  it, and the tuning of the instrument. The attendants of the class learned more about the anhemitonic scale, which  was typical for the ancient music. From the discussed formations, special emphasis was placed on the quinto-quart formation for five-stringed gusli, recorded in Russia by the  scientist Fetis at the beginning of the 19th century. The webinar ended with an introduction of the attendants of the class  to numerous options for tuning additional sounding strings of bourdons. We will be waiting for you at the next meeting on the 12th of April  at 15:00 by Moscow time, where we will study the technique of how to play the wing-shaped and helmet-shaped gusli.
